This can be rather frustrating if you are in Australia, considering we are paying the same amount as the American subscribers and get a lot less “bang-for-buck”. As with most things technological, there are ways around the content licensing restrictions. One of the most popular ways around this is to use a VPN, which makes Netflix servers think that you are connecting from the USA, which means you will then get all the USA content, in your Australian home. This is relatively easy to set up using Google Chrome extensions such as Hula, however Netflix is fighting back. There are huge pressures on Netflix to kurb VPN access, as this is breaching some of the licensing agreements. So far, some Australian VPN users have already noticed their Netflix sessions not working any more, and they have voted with their feet, some by cancelling their subscriptions, and some by going to competing services such as Stan. Time will tell, however the general consensus is that the Australian version of Netflix is not worth the money that Netflix are charging, heck some wouldn’t even use it for free.
